In U.S, many people still keep traditional way to celebrate halloween. It is pumpkin carving. In the beginning of Octber, every time I went to Trade Joe's, lots of pumpkin were outside the store. Actually I see many pumpkin carved are put in front of people's doors. Many children play trick or treat in these houses which decorated as pumpkin, spiderweb, and grave. So we held a pumpkin carving party to celebrate halloween. And a friend baked the cupcake for everybody. She put soft candy on the top of cupcakes, and they looks like warms. Awesome.

People can search how to cave pumpkins on the internet. I checked one video on the youtube, and it was helpful. The following is the procedure.

1. Buy a pumpkin, and decide what to carve. You can find some templates on the internet or others' blog.

2. prepare carving tools, such as knife, spoon, and pushpin. Make sure these tools are strong.

3. When cutting out the top, place the knife at a 45 degree angle so the the lid will have a place to rest when you replace it. If you cut straight down, the lid will fall through.

4. Use a large, heavy metal serving spoon to scrape the insides. 

5. Print out or draw the pattern on a piece of paper. Tape the template onto the pumpkin and use a nail or large pushpin to score the carving lines onto the pumpkin. Connect the dots as you carve. 

6. A long serrated knife or a pumpkin-carving knife with teeth will be necessary to cut through the thick flesh. Use a sawing motion and take your time cutting along the outside edge of the marker lines so there is no marker residue.

I am very happy because this was my first time to cave the pumpkin and the pumpkin looks very great. My friend took the pumpkin to attend the contest. We got the first prize. Thanks to pumpkin, we got two gift cards, which are starbuks and Jump Juice. Actually I think it is a good way for family to celebrate halloween. Children can design what they want to cave, and keep patient when they cave pumpkins. The procedures and the results both make people be satisfied.
